Evacuation orders issued for brush fire in Cheney

As of 2:40 p.m., additional units have been assigned to help for a structure fire at this location, according to the Spokane County Fire District 3.

CHENEY, Wash. — (UPDATE 2)

The fire has escalated from two acres to 30 acres, as of 6 p.m. Spokane County Fire District 3 reports that one house is gone but there is a perimeter around most of the fire and they are making good progress.

Two people were evacuated from a burnt house.

There is no word on when evacuation levels will be lowered, but Spokane County Fire District 3 Fire Chief Cody Rohrbach says it will last through the night.

As of 3 p.m., several additional structures are said to be threatened. At 3:30 p.m., evacuation levels were increased to Level 2 (Get Set to Leave), according to Spokane County Fire District 3.

At 2:20 p.m., a brush fire started burning in the 17800 block of S. Aspen Meadows Drive near Cheney.

According to Spokane County Fire District 3, the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation.

As of 2:40 p.m., additional units have been assigned to help for a structure fire at this location.

Residents in the area are urged to call the Sheriff’s Office for further information.
